Content description of the project

1.) Orientation to Pikkuli pedagogy (3 x 45min)

During the orientation session, you will get to know the pedagogy and trainers behind the Pikkuli methods. We will get acquainted with the 26 Pikkuli stories, their learning and emotional themes, emotional cards and their use among other Pikkuli materials.

A child under the age of three is in a more intensive phase of their development and their development is faster than at any time in their life. The development is holistic and, for example, the foundation of personality and later development and learning is built during the first three years.

After the orientation session, you will know the importance of emotional education as part of early childhood education and as the basis for all learning, as well as the importance of a peer group in learning emotional regulation.

Each online training includes functional small group work. The discussions deepen the above-mentioned theoretical basis of education.

After each online training, participants have 2x 45 minutes of independent work:Try the lesson plan card in your own group of children and write down your experiences and observations in a learning diary.

2.) Art-based methods in early childhood education for 0-3-year-olds (3 x 45min)

Pikkuli is a multimedia entity and its pedagogy makes extensive use of musical, visual, verbal and bodily expression. We will also go through how arts and crafts in particular support children’s emotional and interaction skills and the strengthening of social skills. During the course, you will get practical examples of how to respond to the basics of an early childhood education plan.

In addition, we will get acquainted with Pikkuli’s art-based methods, which are especially suitable for 0–3-year-olds.

3.) Pikkuli in everyday pedagogy (3 x 45min)

With children between the ages of 1 and 3, development and learning are at their most intense. Skills grow and the brain develops with constant feeding. So it is not irrelevant what we do, when we do, and where we do things with young children.

At its best, everyday pedagogy brings a new perspective and enthusiasm to both adults and children to situations that are often seen only as part of everyday life, obligatory and sometimes even difficult moments. Especially in small groups, full-time pedagogy ties together care, upbringing and teaching. During the training, we will discuss, among other things, how music, for example, is suitable for almost all everyday situations: transition situations, free play and basic care situations!

In addition to this, everyday pedagogy requires adults to be sensitive, to seize meaningful moments in everyday life, the ability to create opportunities to learn new things in any everyday situation, the ability to grasp children’s initiatives with sensitivity (linguistic and also non-linguistic initiatives!), genuine listening and participation of children’s tinkering, and appreciation of everyday life and routines.

Each online training includes functional small group work. The discussions deepen the above-mentioned theoretical basis of education.

After each online training, participants have 2 x 45 minutes of independent work:Try the experienced emotional card in your own group of children and write down your experiences and observations in a learning diary.

4.) The educator's own role in supporting emotional education (3 x 45min)

The training session delves into the importance of early childhood educators as enablers of a safe learning environment, allowing you to recognise your own role in modeling emotions. The keywords are well-being at work, coping at work and identifying one’s own strengths and utilising them. Exploring our strengths helps us see more of the good in ourselves and others.

Positive pedagogy also serves as a resource for early childhood educators.

What would it be like for us together if we recognised, valued and utilised our own and each other’s strengths more? What would we achieve then as educators or colleagues?

Each online training includes functional small group work. The discussions deepen the above-mentioned theoretical basis of education.

After each online training, participants have 2 x 45 minutes of independent work:Try the experienced emotional card in your own group of children and write down your experiences and observations in a learning diary.
